Okay, here we go:
GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND READ YOUR BIBLE!!!
I speak to myself as well.
This about this:
We actually can just WHIP it OUT in PUBLIC!
What a HUGE stewardship the Lord has given to us and we are WASTING it.
We will be judged.
We actually have the real, TRUTH of God's WORD and we don't reverence it.
We read it any where, whenever we can "fit it in", we put other things on TOP of it, (I) smoosh it into bags, we set it on the ground -- how do non-Christians perceive this?
I was reading a Muslim website (yes, they are VERY strict about how they treat the Koran and how they pray, etc) and they are DISGUSTED at how "Christians" treat (what WE tout as) God's Word. They can't believe it's actually God's Word because of how we treat it. They are puzzled as to why they are not saved (when they are so reverent and religious) and we seem so complacent and uncaring. (Only through Jesus, but we need to have an excellent testimony.)
CARE for GOD'S WORD!!
**To edit -- I do NOT mean we should treat God's Word as the Muslims and/or live as the Muslims -- I am only saying do our actions reflect how we TALK about the Bible? If we SAY that He is the ONE and ONLY, TRUE and HOLY God, how are we treating His Word?! I use the Muslims to SAY -- a thing that is false they care for and pay attention to and devote themselves to study. We neglect God's Word (the ONLY Truth) and say that it's good enough to read tomorrow, if we have time. We smoosh it under other books because it's just God's Word and we can get another copy at our nearest Target. Bleck. SO! I just used Muslims as a tool for a type of INSPECTION; NOT suggesting that we should conduct ourselves in the same manner.**
God's Word is our SWORD!
First -- you need to be fighting your sin. If you aren't fighting any sin -- YOU STINK!! And need to check out what's happening in your soul. (Truly. Ask yourself, "Am I saved?!?!!")
Second -- if you don't come prepared with God's Word to FIGHT that means YOU are NOT PREPARED!!!!
Jesus' mind was always steady and sure even under the GREATEST of pressures -- (i.e. full-on temptation from Satan without any earthly support of food or home comforts, little sleep, dealing with CROWDS of people constantly, and then the CROSS -- sin wearing Him DOWN.) If Jesus (GOD in bodily form) chose to quote Scripture in the midst of temptation -- if He was always ready with verses to quote to others -- if He was clinging to the truth that God's will MUST be obeyed -- BY GUM!! We better make sure we are clinging to it too!!
Do you feel like you aren't doing much for the Lord?
--How well do you know God's Word?
--How much do you pray?
--What do you pray?
--Are you serving others?
--Are you confessing your sin?
DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE!!!
(I say this to myself.)

I love your blog. I love you! :)
Of course we don't treat our copies of God's word the same way that Muslims treat their copies of their idol's words or even the way Orthodox Jews treat the Torah. We recognize that it is simply a copy of a book where His word has been transcribed - no relics for us. We also don't cover our women up or earn our way to heaven by any means, particularly suicide bombing. These are not people to emulate. Their wonder about all that we do is fantastic. They should wonder. I love my "diaper bag" Bible, my little trutone ESV that I can "whip out" anywhere, refreshing my soul while waiting for a doctor's appointment or burrito...with my entire face not covered by a veil.
HOWEVER.
I couldn't agree more with the sentiment of the rest of the blog. Why aren't we whipping out our Bibles everywhere? Why was it only this year that I started reading large quantities of scripture each day? Sin, I guess, but seriously, that is retarded. I can't believe the changes I've seen just in the past three months due to the increase in intake.
Okay, I'll leave your comment thread alone now. :) I love all the stimulating conversation / reading / typing that you have brought in the tiny time I've known you. :)
Oh yes, yes -- I entirely agree with your first paragraph. We shouldn't try to emulate them. I don't want to be like them, but our actions do reflect our heart attitude. Do we throw our Bibles around because we are taking them for granted? My point in quoting and/or using Muslims wasn't to say that we should be LIKE them, but was to say use them as an inspection of sorts. If I truly know and believe that my copy of God's Word is GOD's very WORD -- won't I spend more time in it? Won't I be more careful how I handle it? Won't I make more time for it? Won't I love and cherish it more?
So, yes -- thank you! And to assure you, I do NOT want to be a Muslim. :0)
(At this moment you are at the elders retreat and so I hope you are having a stiumulating and refreshing time!)
P.S.
I also enjoy how you started your comment -- with love to (??) make sure you didn't step on my toes (??). hahaha Just come on out and say it -- I DISAGREE! :0)(I KNOW you can. I have heard and seen such things. I don't think I can be offended though I could be crushed.)
Thank you for your kindness and sensitivity. :0)
I will look at my little blog posting and see where I need to change my phrase-ology. :0)
